Tomás Gubbins
(SCL, 1990)



Chilean composer, improviser, guitarist and educator who has been developing his work in the fields of so-called Experimental and Improvised Music. With background on chamber and contemporary music, as well as jazz, Gubbins has been a restless artist, constantly searching for sound assemblages and those limits "in between the musics."

Particularly interested in the meeting point and intersections of image, space and sound, Gubbins is currently investigating typologies and graphic devices to note, represent and delimit certain musical contexts.
Due to this curiosity for image and graphics, Gubbins also works as a self-taught designer for projects related to music and/or art, making album covers, posters or whatever may be appear.

Open and seeking for collaborative creative processes, he had worked and played with several musicians and artists from Chile, South America, Asia, Europe and Scandinavia.
He has played in Chile, Argentina, Cuba, Germany, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, U.S.A and England, performing his own music, playing other's either improvising in ad-hoc ensembles.

Following studies and early experience in Chile, Cuba and U.S.A, he moved to Scandinavia where he currently lives.
